Genesis 6: The Flood (NLT)

In Genesis chapter 6 is when where we begin the story of Noah. Noah was a righteous man of God, because at this time the human population grew rapidly, and the Lord observed the people's wickedness, and he saw all their thoughts were consistently and totally evil. The Lord was sorry he had ever made them.
Now wait a second...if the Lord apologized that he ever made them, then why did he make them in the first place? Doesn't he know everything that was going to happen? Did he want the readers to get a clear understanding why he wiped out the human population? I believe so...don't you?

Let's continue...

Now we're at the story of Noah. Noah was a righteous man of God. He loved God, and enjoyed a very close relationship with God. Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth.
God saw the whole earth was being currupted and filled with violence.

This is what God said to Noah, " I have decided to destroy all living creatures, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. Yes, I will wipe them all from the face of the earth! Make a boat (ark) from risinous wood and seal it with tar, inside and out. Then construct decks and stalls throughout its interior. Make it 450 feet long, 75 feet wide, and 45 feet high. Construct an opening all the way around the ark, 18 inches below the roof. Then put three decks inside the ark: bottom, middle, and upper, and put a door in the side." (Genesis 6:14-16)

God then keeps going by saying this, "Look! I am about to cover the earth with a flood that will destroy every living thing. Everything on the earth will die! But I solemnly swear to keep you safe in the boat, with your wife and your sons and their wives. Bring a pair of every kind of animal, a male and a female, into the ark with you to keep them alive during the flood. Pairs of each kind of bird and each kind of animal, large and small alike, will come to you to be kept alive. And remember, take enough food for your family and for all the animals." Noah did everything exactly as God had commanded him. (Genesis 6:17-22)

What was going through Noah's mind when God was telling him what was going to happen? Fear? Overwhelmed? Noah got straight to work on the boat. He trusted God, cause God told Noah that he solemnly swear that he would keep his family safe.
Just to let you know this boat was no canoe! Picture yourself building a boat the length of one and a half football fields and as high as four-story building. The boat was exactly six times longer than it was wide; the same ratio used by modern shipbuilders.

In Genesis 6:9 it says that Noah was a righteous man, the only blameless man living on earth at that time.

To say Noah was "righteous" and "blameless" does not mean that he nevered sinned. Rather, it means that he wholeheartedly loved and obeyed God. For a lifetime he walked step by step in faith as a living example to his generation. Like Noah, we live in a world filled with evil. Are we influencing others or being influenced by them?
