Genesis 2:5-3:24: The Man and the Woman-Paradise Lost: God's Judgement

Genesis chapter 2 shows us how God made man (Adam). Springs came up out from the ground and watered the land, then God formed man from dust from the ground and breathed the breath of life in the man's nostrils, and the man became a living person. I don't know about you, but that is pretty freaky and cool at the same time.
The Lord God planted a garden in Eden aka. (The Garden of Eden) where he placed Adam in. God told Adam to watch over the garden and God gave him this one warning, just one. God told Adam that he may freely eat the fruits of every tree in the garden, except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If Adam ate from that tree, he would surely die. Pretty self-explanatory don't you think.
This is interesting what God says next. God said "It is not good for man to be alone." So God put Adam into a deep sleep. As Adam slept, God took a rib out Adam and closed up the opening. God formed a woman out of the rib. Stop right there....God took one rib out of a man's ribcage and formed a woman out of it. If I were Adam, I'll be like, "God, I appreciate that you're trying to provide me a helper, but I think I'm good if you just didn't mess with my ribcage." Then again, I'm not Adam. So God brought the woman before Adam. Adam exclaims, "At last!" Then continues onto saying, "This one is bone from my bone, and flesh from my flesh! She will be called 'woman,' because she was taken from 'man.'"

Genesis 2:24 This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.

Genesis chapter 3 shows us sin and how sin can intervene in a perfect world. So let us begin.

God created a wild animal that was the shrewdest of all wild animals, the serpent. One day, the serpent asked the woman (Eve), “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?” Again, let's stop right there. Did an animal just talked to a person? How is this possible? For those who don't know what a serpent is, it's a snake. Ok, now, how is this snake talking to Eve? Simple, this is where we first meet Satan, the Devil, Lucifer, the Prince of Darkness. Ok now back to the story. The serpent asks “Did God really say you must not eat the fruit from any of the trees in the garden?” What was the woman's response to all this. “Of course we may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, it’s only the fruit from the tree in the middle of the garden that we are not allowed to eat. God said, ‘You must not eat it or even touch it; if you do, you will die.’” Great answer. Now the serpent twists God's words around to make us believe what we want to hear. "You won't die! God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.”
Pretty convincing don't you think. It worked in the woman's case. She believed the serpent. She looked at the fruit on the tree of knowledge of good and evil and couldn't resist. So she went and took the fruit from the tree and ate it. Then gave some to her husband, Adam and he ate it. As soon as they ate the fruit, their eyes were opened, just like the serpent said, and they suddenly felt shame because of their nakedness. So they sewed up some fig leaves together to cover themselves.
God is walking in the garden when all this was happening, because Adam and the woman heard God walking about in the garden. So Adam and the woman hid from God. Hid from God. The Creator of the Universe and they hid from him. That's sad. God was wondering where they're were. Adam response was, “It was the woman you gave me who gave me the fruit, and I ate it.” Of course God ask the woman what she had done, and her response was, “The serpent deceived me, that's  why I ate it."
Then God looked at the serpent saying this,

Genesis 3:14-15  “Because you have done this, you are cursed more than all animals, domestic and wild.
You will crawl on your belly, groveling in the dust as long as you live.15 And I will cause hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel.”

Now God is very upset with Adam and the woman at this point, because they had disobeyed him. God told the woman that he will sharpen the pain in the woman's pregnancy, and in pain giving birth. She will desire to control over her husband, but he will rule over her.
And to Adam, God told him this, “Since you listened to your wife and ate from the tree whose fruit I commanded you not to eat, the ground is cursed because of you. All your life you will struggle to scratch a living from it. It will grow thorns and thistles for you, though you will eat of its grains. By the sweat of your brow will you have food to eat until you return to the ground from which you were made. For you were made from dust, and to dust you will return.”
Then Adam named his wife, Eve, because she would be the mother of all who live. And the Lord God made clothing from animal skins for Adam and his wife.

Tomorrow I'll talk about Cain and Abel and Adam's descendants.
